The rise of computing power exponentially increased the ability to develop technologies based on artificial intelligence and capable of autonomous action. The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) and the Netherlands Institute of International Relations Clingendael are organizing the expert debate “Robotics and Artificial Intelligence: the Future, Today” to deepen the understanding of the many implications of these technological advances. The event will take place on 24 March 2016 from 5.30 to 6.30 pm at the Institute of Clingendael Institute, Clingendael 7 2597 VH, The Hague (The Netherlands).
Perception of Artificial intelligence and Robotics is generally bifurcated with advocates seeing the technology as significantly enhancing the quality of human life and detractors concerned about the consequences of bypassing of human instruction and the possibility of machines that have self-learning capabilities evolving in an unanticipated and dangerous manner.
The expert debate will focus on the opportunities provided by the latest development of AI and autonomous robotics as well as the social, ethical and security challenges posed to the very functioning of society.
