UNICRI celebrates the UN Day
Turin, 24 October 2018. UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being.

Today we celebrate the United Nations Day to marking the anniversary of the entry into force of the UN Charter in 1945. UNICRI would like to reiterate the importance of respecting and embodying the United Nations Charter promoting peaceful, just and inclusive societies, free from crime and violence. The international community must address the many obstacles to the achievement of a peaceful and prosperous world: conflicts, violent extremism, inequality, the raising of hate and discrimination, climate change and more broadly, violation of fundamental freedoms and human rights.
The UN Day is an essential time to reflect on the principles of the Charter, encourage people to embrace its values and raise awareness of those experiencing violence and deprivation of rights on a daily basis. We are working with Members States and the entire UN system on issues related to advancing justice, crime prevention, security and the rule of law in support of peace, human rights and sustainable development. We provide research and tailored approaches to international projects in the field of justice and security to help communities to become more resilient, empowering youth and promoting social inclusion and cohesion.
Today, we stand behind the Secretary-General’s 2018 message: “On United Nations Day, let us reaffirm our commitment. To repair broken trust. To heal our planet. To leave no one behind. To uphold dignity for one and all, as united nations”.
