Opening Ceremony of the 7th CBRN CoE National Focal Points Round-Table Meeting for South East Asia

TUESDAY, 02nd April 2014, The Opening Ceremony of the 7th CBRN CoE National Focal Points Round-Table Meeting for South East Asia was officiated by His Excellency Dato Hamdan Abu Bakar, Permanent Secretary at the Security and Enforcement Division, Prime Minister’s Office at the Dewan Sepakat 3, International Convention Centre Berakas this morning.

In his speech, His Excellency Dato Hamdan Abu Bakar called upon the delegates to take this opportunity to enhance and foster existing relations between participating ASEAN countries and experts from the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute [UNICRI], European Union [EU] and Organization of the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons [OPCW] related to Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear [CBRN].

The 7th annual meeting among others will discuss projects which have been identified by South East Asian nations with the guidance by the experts from UNICRI, EU and OPCW. This meeting will also include bilateral discussions between individual South East Asian nations with UNICRI.

The two-day meeting which gathers all National Focal Point for CBRN representatives from South East Asia nations will be held until 03rd April 2014.

It is the first time for Brunei Darussalam to be the host for this meeting exemplifying its support and commitment in handling issues concerning CBRN.

This meeting is jointly organised by the Security and Enforcement Division of the Prime Minister’s Office of Brunei Darussalam, UNICRI and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Centres of Excellence [CBRN CoE] Regional Secretariat for South East Asia based in Manila.
