ABSTRACT |
Event though illegal entry in the U.S. is not a new phenomenon, it is only recently that organized activities in the field of human smuggling carried out by Chinese nationals became an issue discussed at large. This book is based on extensive fieldwork both in China and in the U.S. and starts by providing an extensive historical analysis, then carries on with a presentation of the smugglers interviewed for this publication, underlining techniques used and strategies adopted by the smugglers, the costs and profits of this illicit business, the role of gender in carrying out such illegal activities. It ends with a consideration of how, if at all, the phenomenon can be stopped. |
