BUILDING TRUST THROUGH CIVIC ENGAGEMENT |
|
ABSTRACT |
The publication is the result of the Workshop on Building Trust through Civic Engagement which took place in UN Headquarters in Vienna in 2007. The first part of the publication addresses the issue of citizen engagement and the role it may play in building trust in the governments, in creating a shared vision and a mechanism of transparency and accountability, and in general in bringing the citizens closer to the government and the government closer to the citizens. The second part presents an overview of best practices and lessons learned in several cases of successful civic engagement, including Austria, Philippines, Rwanda, India and Australia. |
