| ABSTRACT |
| This book focuses on the role that security actors can play in the fight against human trafficking and their obligations in doing so. Security actors are, among others, the police, the armed forces, border guards, prosecutors and judges. Their first obligation is to prosecute traffickers and at the same time protect the victims of trafficking. It is important that such actors also engage in preventive actions. The second obligation is to do no harm, as for example in situations where the police might raid brothels and treat people forced into prostitution as criminals, or other similar cases. It is specifically intended for use by policymakers and security practitioners, but draws conclusions which might be of interest for the general public as well. |
